Genuine reason for possession or use · Purpose 7

Who can apply?

You must be a bona fide collector and a member of an approved society collecting the relevant firearm types. The collection must have significant commemorative, historical, thematic or investment value.

What do you provide?

Provide current society membership, the collection theme and the firearms you intend to collect. Apply for the categories relevant to that collection.

Possession does not mean unrestricted use

Category D collection firearms must be permanently incapable of firing. Other collection firearms made after 1 January 1900 generally require temporary disabling. Restoring operability and discharging collection firearms are subject to specific conditions and approvals.

What should you check before acquiring?

Check the collecting, storage and acquisition conditions for the firearm. Permanent disabling must be undertaken by a licensed dealer with the required confirmation. Speak to your society and Firearms Services about approved collecting activities.
